Green computing also known as Green IT is the term used to denote efficient use of resources in computing, is the study and practice of environmentally sustainable computing or IT. Besides IT itself being green, it can support, assist, and leverage other environmental initiatives to achieve energy efficiency and reduce carbon footprint in every walk of life by offering innovative solutions.

Under the program, DeitY has initiated development of technologies and deployable solutions for Smart buildings with low carbon emissions, Smart cities using Internet of Things (IOT).
